Interesting facts
The complex, rich, very elegant and modern "Roda I" Reserva, 2018, considered one of the best and most beautiful vintages of this wine, will turn a special occasion into an unforgettable one. The wine is made from grapes of Tempranillo and Graciano varieties harvested from vines older than 30 years, which yield a small harvest: only one and a half kilograms per vine. Fermentation of the must with natural yeast cultures at controlled temperature takes place in large oak barrels. Then follows malolactic fermentation and aging of the wine in French oak barrels for 16 months. The 2018 vintage will require several additional years of storage to develop unique complexity, with the peak maturity of the vintage expected between 2023-2034. Decanting is recommended one hour before consumption.
About the Manufacturer
Bodegas Roda is located in the northwestern part of the Rioja region, in Barrio de la Estación. This small town on the southern bank of the Ebro River is associated with some of the greatest wines of Rioja, as well as with some of the most revered wineries existing since the mid-19th century. Bodegas Roda was founded in 1987 by Catalans Mario Rotllant and Carmen Daurella. Their goal was to create excellent, highly expressive red wines in a modern style that reflect the terroir of the region and varietal characteristics in a unique embodiment. The symbol of the winery, conveying the meaning of its vision, is the image of a thistle — an elegant resilient flower closely linked to the landscape and capable of lasting long after being cut. The owners of Bodegas Roda carefully studied Bordeaux wines as a benchmark for technique and quality. Consulting with the famous Spanish viticulturist Félix Alonso, Mario acquired 21 vineyards totaling 150 hectares in the best areas of Rioja Alta and Alavesa. All vineyards are cultivated without the use of chemicals, and the harvest is hand-picked, with vine ages ranging from 30 to 90 years.
