Interesting facts
The grape harvest for the production of Chateau Talbot wine is done exclusively by hand. At least 180 people are involved in this process. Great attention is paid to grape sorting: the first selection is made in the vineyard, the second at the winery, where fermentation takes place. From 8 to 10 people at a large seven-meter table separate the berries that do not meet the optimal ripeness standard before sending them to the press. Maceration and fermentation of grapes from old vines occur in wooden vats. Steel containers are used for younger vines. The technology is adapted annually to the characteristics of each specific harvest. The cellars are dimly lit, and the temperature is always 16 °C. The wine is aged for 15 months in French oak barrels (50% new). This allows the wine to "breathe" better, becoming rounder and acquiring interesting notes in flavor. All technological decisions regarding aging are made individually for each vintage based on the taste characteristics revealed during tasting. Experts recommend consuming the 2019 vintage between 2024 and 2040.
About the Manufacturer
Chateau Talbot has a rich history. Its name comes from the Constable Talbot, a famous English military leader, governor of the city of Guyenne, who became famous in the Battle of Castillon in 1453. In 1855, during the classification ordered by Emperor Napoleon III, Chateau Talbot ranked fourth in Saint-Julien. For several decades, it belonged to the Marquis Aux. In 1917, Chateau was acquired by Désiré Cordier. Under the guidance of the Cordier family, Chateau Talbot became one of the most famous in the Bordeaux region. Today, Chateau, whose vineyards cover more than one hundred hectares, is led by Lothar Cordier and Nancy Bignon-Cordier, who maintain the traditions and innovations of previous generations. The estate has two cellars: the first was renovated in 1989 and filled with wooden barrels characteristic of past times, while the second is equipped with computers controlling the temperature regime and stainless steel barrels. Chateau Talbot is one of the most famous wines of Saint-Julien. It is characterized by a generous bouquet, stability, and reliability in the aging process, silky, soft, and very civilized tannins. Each year, the harvest brings different grapes, and its quality depends on the age of the vines, the composition of each plot of soil, and the weather. But year after year, the main task of the winemakers at Chateau Talbot is to seek perfect quality.
