Interesting facts
Vosne Romanee 1-er Cru "Aux Malconsorts" is a luxurious wine made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the "Aux Malconsorts" vineyard in Vosne-Romanée, bordering the famous Grand Cru "La Tâche". The origin of the term "Malconsorts" is unclear but may refer to the complex history of land ownership and legal battles necessary for the right to own this magical place. Domaine de Montille owns two parcels, the soils of which complement each other: one has light brown clay with gravel inclusions, while the other has dark red clay. The harvest is collected when the berries reach optimal ripeness. Typically, most of the harvest (2/3) is vinified as whole clusters, after which the wine is aged in oak barrels, 50% of which are new. The wine has a potential aging of over 25 years.
About the Manufacturer
The history of Domaine de Montille dates back to the distant 17th century when the Montille family owned the best plots in Volnay, Meursault, Beaune Mar and Chambolle-Musigny, totaling 12 hectares. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties in the early 20th century, the winery gradually began to sell off its lands. When Hubert de Montille inherited the vineyards from his father in 1947, their area was only 3 hectares. For many years he developed the family winemaking business in Volnay while also working as a lawyer in Dijon. In the 1950s, Burgundy saw the birth of a new type of viticulture. "My father is a man of character and taste. He quickly understood that he wanted to create wines that he himself loves. Above all, my father wanted to pay tribute to each terroir by creating wines with elegance and exquisite aromatic purity," says Étienne, Hubert's son. Hubert's children, Étienne and Alix, learned about winemaking at an early age, but their father would never pass on the winemaking baton without studying a real profession. While the children followed the family path, orienting themselves towards a legal career, a return to winemaking was inevitable. In 1983, Étienne joined the family business, and in 2001 he took full control of Domaine de Montille and Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet, with his style and philosophy being biodynamic farming. In 2003, Alix joined her brother, and they created Deux Montille Sœur-Frère, a merchant house focused on producing white wines. Today, Domaine de Montille's vineyards cover 20 hectares, of which 75% are Premier or Grand Cru vineyards.
