Interesting facts
For many years, Valpolicella was considered an ordinary wine for pizza. Romano Dal Forno managed to change this belief. His Valpolicella has acquired such complexity, structure, and concentration that it can be compared to the best examples of Brunello. Valpolicella Superiore is a fantastically powerful, deep, dense, serious wine that changes the horizon of traditional Valpolicella. Many critics have noted that this vintage resembles great Amarone more. This is because its production process completely replicates the production process of Amarone from Dal Forno, except that the grapes were harvested from younger vines and dried for 45 days instead of 90. This vintage was also aged in new oak barrels for two years (instead of the standard three) and four years in bottles (instead of three). The additional year in the bottle served for good integration and harmonization of the wine and reduction of micro-oxygenation. The 2013 vintage will age beautifully for 20 years.

The winemaker took another 7 years to decide on a complete overhaul of production, and in 1990 he did so, investing nearly 1.5 billion lira in the project.
