Interesting facts

Champagne Drappier Blanc de Blancs Brut is a classic Blanc de Blanc, which experts consider to be the most concentrated and vibrant among entry-level champagnes from various producers. As the name suggests, this champagne is made exclusively from white grapes, namely Chardonnay. The originality of the Drappier house is expressed in the addition of 5% of the Pinot Blanc variety, also known as "Blanc Vrai" ("true white"), which enhances the complexity and roundness of the wine. Only the first pressing juice — cuvée — is used in the production of champagne, which is transferred to tanks by gravity. After natural settling, a two-week alcoholic fermentation occurs at low temperatures, followed by complete natural malolactic fermentation. The wine is then bottled without filtration and aged for at least two years. Minimal sulfur is used during production.

About the Manufacturer

The Drappier winery began its history in 1803 when its founder, François Drappier, arrived in the village of Urville, where he managed the first vineyard of the House. Interestingly, the surname Drappier translates as "sheet" or "cloth". This is not accidental. History claims that the first members of the family were engaged in the textile trade, which is how they received such a surname. In 1930, Georges Collot, the grandfather of the current manager Michel Drappier, decided to plant the estate exclusively with Pinot Noir vines, earning him the playful nickname "Father of Pinot". Today, about 70% of the vineyards are dedicated to Pinot Noir. The estate's history has also faced setbacks, such as the unprecedented frost in 1957, which destroyed 95% of the potential harvest. However, this became just a challenge that the owners managed to overcome by planting the more frost-resistant Pinot Meunier variety. In 1968, the wife of the then-owner André — Michèle Drappier introduced the idea of producing rosé champagne. This innovation literally appealed to many champagne enthusiasts, and Drappier's rosé champagne became popular not only in its native Champagne but also far beyond its borders. For example, this wine is regularly supplied to the Élysée Palace. The cellars of the Champagne House Drappier, where the famous champagne is aged, are considered unique. They were built in the 12th century by Cistercian monks who came to Urville to establish a monastery. Today, the management of the company is in the hands of representatives of the sixth and seventh generations of the Drappier family, while their successors — young Charlène, Hugo, and Antoine — are already growing up.
