Interesting facts
This is the largest AOC, extending over three villages: Aloxe-Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses, and Ladoix-Serrigny, forming La Butte de Corton. Geological differences and varying exposures yield rich and dense wines with mineral and crystalline nuances. The 2020 vintage is unique. It is characterized by early ripening: from bud break, three weeks earlier, to harvest, which took place entirely in August. High temperatures combined with a lack of precipitation cause significant water deficits, as well as evaporation phenomena in July and August. On the other hand, the absence of rain allows the grapes to remain in very good condition. The special conditions of this harvest create a wonderful balance. Production method: 100% crushed grapes 24-hour static settling Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in oak barrels 20 months aging (of which 7 months in stainless steel tanks) 100% oak barrels (of which 25% are new).
About the Manufacturer
For the Leflaive family, winemaking is a heritage passed down from generation to generation as a treasure. Olivier is the eighteenth of them. In 1984, he founded his own winery and wine house Olivier Leflaive. Within a few years, the name became unique, a benchmark in Côte de Beaune. Later, his brother Patrick joined him, then his daughter Julie and former son-in-law Jean Subeyran. Owning 100 hectares of vineyards, 26 of which belong to the estate, and 82 vineyards, including the famous Grand Cru Batard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, and Montrachet, the estate pays tribute to these renowned Burgundy vineyards, respecting traditional methods and the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation. Hand harvesting and skilled barrel aging carried out by his passionate team allow the House to create elegant wines, remarkable in every respect. The white wines are characterized by exceptional finesse, while the reds have perfectly balanced intensity. The Champagne Valentin, Olivier Leflaive's latest creation, transfers his Burgundy knowledge to the Champagne terroir, creating a completely unique sparkling wine. In 2020, the management of the hotel was transferred between Olivier and Julie, who completely redesigned it, giving it a modern look.
