Interesting facts
"Coeur de Cuvee" Brut Premier Cru is an extra-class champagne. As the name suggests ("coeur" (fr.) means "heart"), the champagne is made from the finest grapes harvested from 60-year-old vines from the Rilly-la-Montagne plantation. The must is fermented in large oak barrels, which gives the champagne dominant woody notes in the early years. The champagne is aged for 10 months in 228-liter oak barrels and 70 months in bottles in the winery's cellars. The 2015 vintage is an excellent example of magnificent champagne created in a successful year. Its aging potential is until 2039. As it matures, "Coeur de Cuvee" champagne gains additional freshness, balance, and fullness.
About the Manufacturer
Vilmart was founded in a small quiet village near the Montagne de Reims in 1872 by a man named Vilmart Désiré. Over the next 20 years of hard work and effort, Vilmart established and developed his winery. In 1902, his son Charles took over the family estate, dedicating himself to the business 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In 1930, this responsibility was inherited by Renault Vilmart, the grandfather of the current owner. It was Renault who did much for the winery, elevating its status to a national level. Renault's daughter, Nicole, married one of the winery's workers, and together they decided to make changes to the traditional winemaking process by introducing the use of oak barrels for aging, which was rare for the region. In 1990, their son Lauren took on the role of manager. Today, the Vilmart estate vineyards cover approximately 11 hectares in the Champagne region, with 60% planted with Chardonnay, 36% with Pinot Noir, and 4% with Pinot Meunier. The soils are clayey with a limestone mix.
