Lignell & Piispanen is a family-owned business founded in 1852, now managed by the sixth and seventh generations of the Nyland family. The company was established by Gustav Ranin, who in 1859, just a few years after its founding, acquired the well-known Crown Distillery in Kuopio. The Crown Distillery was established in 1783 by King Gustav III of Sweden and was one of the most technologically advanced distilleries in the country at that time. Gustav Ranin introduced the company`s philosophy, which emphasized respect for the wilderness of the Northern countries and working with the products it provides.
