Interesting facts
"One of the best Chardonnays in New Zealand that I tasted was from Dog Point in Marlborough, a region usually known for Chardonnays with higher acidity and pronounced oily flavors. This Chardonnay is much more refined, in a European style. It is a Chardonnay for those who advocate a light and drinkable style!" — "New Zealand Herald". Chardonnay, 2011 from Dog Point Vineyard is a magnificent, unique wine worthy of close attention, made more in the style of Chablis than Marlborough, very tasty, elegantly drinkable. It is produced from the harvest of the oldest vines in Marlborough. These vines are located on clay loam soils with good drainage. The vines are planted very densely and have very low yields. Most of the harvest is hand-picked. After pressing, pure yeast strains are added to the resulting juice. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, some of which are new. Most of the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for eighteen months in oak barrels on the yeast sediment. Before bottling, the wine is lightly fined. At its peak, the wine will be at its best from 2013 to 2020.
About the Manufacturer
Dog Point Vineyard was founded by James Healy and Ivan Sutherland, who were at the forefront of New Zealand winemaking. Prior to this, they worked for a long time at the renowned Cloudy Bay estate. The vineyards of Dog Point are located in the northern part of the South Island, in the Marlborough region — the Wairau Valley. The grapes grow on rich clay loam soils with natural drainage. The main approach used in winemaking is non-intervention in natural processes, which gives the wines an exciting purity and strength, while prolonged contact of the must with the yeast sediment gives the wines a solid structure.
