Interesting facts
The wines of the "Coleccion 125" line were first introduced in 1985, coinciding with the 125th anniversary of Bodegas Chivite's wine export in 1865. The outstanding "Coleccion 125" Reserva is produced from the finest Tempranillo grapes, hand-harvested from vineyards located in the Señorío de Arínzano estate on gravel soils containing clay, marl, sand, and limestone. The winemakers' task in producing the wine is to highlight the fruity character of the variety. After vinification, the wine is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, of which 60% are new and 40% are used. The wine's aging potential is at least 10 years.
About the Manufacturer
Chivite is one of the oldest winemaking dynasties in Spain, with over 11 generations of the family involved in winemaking. Today, the company owns estates in Rioja, Rueda, and Ribera del Duero. Upholding the best traditions while utilizing the latest technologies, Bodegas Chivite has become one of the most renowned and respected producers and exporters of high-quality wines from Navarra. An ancient document from the 17th century states that the Chivite family owned vineyards and a winery of considerable size for that time. Since then, winemaking traditions have been passed down through generations. In 1860, Claudio Chivite Randez, taking advantage of the crisis caused by the oidium epidemic in French vineyards, began exporting wines to meet the growing demand in the north. Later, in the 19th century, the Chivite house in Cintruénigo became an inn where travelers stopped on their way to Madrid, thus spreading the name Chivite worldwide. In the 20th century, Julian Chivite Marco, a proponent of high quality, significantly improved production. His efforts led to modernization not only in the family estate but also to administrative reforms, resulting in the creation of D.O. Navarra in 1967, and the Navarra region began to gain popularity. Julian Chivite demonstrated that the priority red variety for Navarra is Tempranillo, not Garnacha, as previously thought; in this climate, Tempranillo can produce bright, modern, and elegant wines. In 1992, Julian Chivite was awarded the Order of "Merit in Agriculture" and posthumously in 1997 the Cross of Carlos III. In 1988, reconstruction work was carried out, and modern technologies were introduced into production. At the same time, the family acquired the estate Señorío de Arínzano in Aberin. In 1998, the winery Vina Salceda and vineyards in Rioja Alavesa were purchased, and three years later the estate La Horra in Ribera del Duero. Today, the Chivite family owns 600 hectares of vineyards. Chivite wines are traditionally in high demand, and exports to other countries account for about 70%.
