Interesting facts
Borgogno, Barolo is a red dry wine made from Nebbiolo grapes grown on limestone-clay soils at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The harvest is collected from late September to mid-October. At the winery, the fruits are sorted and undergo vinification. Spontaneous fermentation occurs in cement tanks at temperatures of 22–28 °C and lasts about 15 days. Maceration is carried out in concrete tanks and lasts at least 20 days. The subsequent malolactic fermentation is conducted in these same concrete tanks. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for more than 24 months, after which it is bottled and left to mature in the winery's cellars. The 2019 vintage will reach its peak perfection between 2026 and 2041.
About the Manufacturer
The name of the Giacomo Borgogno winery was first mentioned in official documents in 1848, but according to family chronicles, the winery was founded by Bartolomeo Borgogno in 1671. The sacred tradition of the Giacomo Borgogno house is to leave a large portion of the best vintage wines for further aging in the winery's cellars. Over the years, they acquire magnificent aroma and exceptional balanced roundness. Each bottle is carefully checked before the wine reaches the consumer. The vineyards of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, covering a total area of 40 hectares, are located on four of the best sites of the Barolo appellation: Cannubi, Liste, Fossati, and San Pietro. The vineyards primarily grow local grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. Despite being a small estate, the excellent quality of the wines has brought it worldwide recognition and fame. Wines from Giacomo Borgogno & Figli have repeatedly been chosen for diplomatic banquets: they were served at the celebration of the unification of Italy in 1861, as well as during the official visit of Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
