Interesting facts
The wine "Bompe" is the pride of the Borgogno house, a 100% Barbera wine that comes from the Madonna di Como hills in the Langhe region, located from east to southwest at an altitude of 410 to 425 meters above sea level. This privileged position ensures optimal ripening due to the sun's exposure from morning to evening on soils composed of clay and chalk, rich in minerals. The planting density reaches 4000 vines per hectare, and harvesting occurs at the end of September. The winemaking tradition of Borgogno, which dates back to 1761, is fully expressed in this wine, with vinification that adheres to classic methods: spontaneous fermentation in cement tanks for about 10 days at temperatures ranging from 22 to 28 °C, followed by one year of aging in large lightly toasted French oak barrels.
About the Manufacturer
The name of the Giacomo Borgogno winery first appeared in official documents in 1848, but according to family chronicles, the winery was founded by Bartolomeo Borgogno in 1671. The sacred tradition of the Giacomo Borgogno house is to leave a large part of the best vintage wines for further aging in the winery's cellars. Over the years, they acquire magnificent aromas and exceptional balanced roundness. Each bottle is carefully checked before the wine reaches the consumer. The vineyards of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, covering a total area of 40 hectares, are located in four of the best sites of the Barolo appellation: Cannubi, Liste, Fossati, and San Pietro. The vineyards mainly grow local grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. Despite being a small estate, the excellent quality of the wines has brought it worldwide recognition and fame. Wines from Giacomo Borgogno & Figli have been repeatedly chosen for diplomatic banquets: they were served at the celebration of the unification of Italy in 1861, as well as during the official visit of Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
