Interesting facts
"Belpoggio" Brunello di Montalcino DOCG is a magnificent, elegant red wine considered one of the most famous Italian wines in the world. The wine is made from Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello) grapes grown on the company's vineyards in the Tuscany region in the Montalcino wine zone. The vineyards with a southwest exposure stretch across sandy-limestone soils at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level, with a planting density of 3900 vines per hectare. The climate in Montalcino is characterized as Mediterranean and is one of the warmest and driest in Tuscany. The harvest is collected when the berries reach optimal ripeness. The vinification process follows the traditional method of red wine production, including maceration at controlled temperature for 15-20 days. The wine is aged in 30 hectoliter oak barrels for 36 months, and after bottling, it is aged for another 6-9 months in a dark room at a constant temperature not exceeding 15 °C. The 2017 vintage will reveal its potential most fully between 2022 and 2032. The year 2017 in Tuscany was very dry. During the winter season, there was very little precipitation, and temperatures were above average. Then came dry and changeable spring weather: in March, above-average temperatures led to rapid bud break and growth, while in April, temperatures dropped slightly, causing winemakers to fear frost threats for two consecutive nights in the second week of the month. The first and last rain before the harvest fell in the first week of May. In the following months, temperatures rose again and remained stable throughout the growing season. The harvest was carried out very early compared to the previous year, which nevertheless yielded amazing results in terms of freshness and elegance of the future wines.
About the Manufacturer
The headquarters of Bellussi is located in the Valdobbiadene region, which is rightly considered the capital of Prosecco. It consists of an office building designed in a high-tech style and a modernly equipped wine cellar. Enrico Martellozzo acquired the company in 1993 with the aim of reviving the brand and breathing new life into it. In 2005, he also acquired the Belpoggio estate, covering 24 acres, located south of Montalcino. Half of the area is planted with Sangiovese grapes, while the other half is dedicated to olive groves. Today, the Bellussi and Belpoggio brands are gaining popularity in many European countries due to their impeccable quality and reasonable price.
