Interesting facts

The Borgogno Barolo Riserva is made from Nebbiolo grapes grown on various vineyards with southern exposure in Barolo, at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The vineyards are located on clay-limestone soils. The age of the vines ranges from 5 to 40 years. Harvesting is done when the grapes reach optimal ripeness. In 2006, harvesting took place from September 29 to October 6. At the winery, the grapes are sorted and vinified. Fermentation occurs at temperatures of 22-25 °C initially, rising to 29-30 °C at the end. Maceration lasts for 30 days. The wine is aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 6 years, after which it is bottled and remains to mature for another 12 months in the winery's cellars. It is recommended to decant the wine before consumption.

About the Manufacturer

The name of the Giacomo Borgogno winery first appeared in official documents in 1848, but according to family chronicles, the winery was founded by Bartolomeo Borgogno in 1671. The sacred tradition of the Giacomo Borgogno house is to leave a large part of the best vintage wines for further aging in the winery's cellars. Over the years, they acquire magnificent aromas and exceptional balanced roundness. Each bottle is carefully checked before the wine reaches the consumer. The vineyards of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli, covering a total area of 40 hectares, are located in four of the best sites of the Barolo appellation: Cannubi, Liste, Fossati, and San Pietro. The vineyards mainly grow local grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, and Barbera. Despite being a small estate, the excellent quality of the wines has brought it worldwide recognition and fame. Wines from Giacomo Borgogno & Figli have been repeatedly chosen for diplomatic banquets: they were served at the celebration of the unification of Italy in 1861, as well as during the official visit of Russian Tsar Nicholas II.
