Interesting facts
"te Pa" Pinot Noir is a magnificent red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes that ripen in a vineyard located in the northern part of the unique terroir of New Zealand's Marlborough region. This dry, sunny region is situated at the northeastern tip of the South Island. Significant daily temperature fluctuations create an extended growing season, allowing the grapes to develop a full, expressive varietal character without losing their characteristic acidity. After harvesting, which occurs when the berries reach optimal ripeness, the fruit is partially destemmed. The grapes are then gently pressed and fermented in open fermenters. Post-fermentation maceration lasts 7-15 days to create structure and harmonize the tannins. The wine is aged for 10 months in French oak barrels (25% new).
About the Manufacturer
The history of te Pa Family Vineyards dates back to the 1350s when a settlement was established at the mouth of the Wairau River by the descendants of Haisley MacDonald, the current owner of the estate. Haisley's descendants lived on this land for centuries, but it was only in the 20th century that they began to cultivate the land (growing potatoes) and raise livestock. Haisley traveled extensively in the USA, exploring the world and discovering new opportunities. Upon returning home, at his father's request, he was to continue the family farming business. However, Haisley decided to pursue winemaking and planted the first grapevines on his land in 2003. In 2011, the "te Pa" brand was launched, which immediately gained recognition from wine critics. The vineyards, covering about 400 hectares, are located in a unique microclimate of the Marlborough region, between the mighty Wairau River and the azure waters of the Cook Strait. This location ensures a continuous airflow throughout the growing season, significantly reducing the risk of disease and compensating for heat spikes in mid-summer. The soils under the vineyards range from rich fertile loams to sandy and clayey. Due to the uniqueness of the microclimate, the wines produced from local grapes have soft acidity, a spicy aroma, and mature flavor characteristics. Among the wide range of wines, one can always find a drink to suit one's taste and budget.
