Interesting facts
Clos Henri, "Estate" Pinot Noir is an elegant dry red wine made from Pinot Noir grapes, previously known as "Petit Clos". Combining the best nuances of Marlborough and the heritage of Sancerre, this organic wine is the flagship wine of "Clos Henri" in Blenheim. The label design pays homage to the biodiversity of local species in the Marlborough valley and tells the story of commitment to the ideas of replanting and restoring local species. Harvesting is done only when the berries reach optimal ripeness. At the winery, the grapes undergo fermentation at controlled temperatures in open stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in large French oak barrels for 11 months.
About the Manufacturer
The "Clos Henri" vineyard has been cultivated for several decades by the Bourgeois family, owners of the renowned Domaine “Henri Bourgeois” in the Loire Valley, known for producing magnificent Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé wines. Thus, the name "Clos Henri" reflects French roots. The term "clos" refers to a vineyard enclosed by a stone wall with a unique terroir, while “Henri” is the name of the founder of the Bourgeois winemaking dynasty. Special attention is paid to protecting the vines from direct sunlight throughout the season. For this purpose, special canopies are installed above the vines. Long cool nights and warm dry days allow the berries to reach optimal ripeness. The ripe grapes exhibit a rich aroma with tones of citrus, flowers, and lychee. Marlborough is the most important wine region in New Zealand. This status was achieved just 24 years after the first vines were planted in New Zealand. Sunny days alternate with clear, cool nights, and the dry autumn provides the berries with a long ripening period, which positively affects the flavor quality of the grapes. The symbol of the Clos Henri estate is the Church of Saint Solange, depicted on the label. The name of the church is symbolic: it represents both the patroness of the vineyards and the memory of Solange Bourgeois, Henri's wife. This family business does much more than other wine producers in France. Constant exchange of ideas and the creation of important connections are key steps toward achieving perfection. Their wines strive to create an ideal, elegant, and flawless classic drink that provides true pleasure.
