About the Manufacturer
The history of Moet & Chandon began in 1743 when Claude Moet started supplying wine from the Champagne province to Paris and other French cities. The reign of Louis XV coincided with a growing demand for sparkling wine. Thus, Claude's business quickly expanded, and by the end of the 18th century, he was already exporting champagne throughout Europe and even to the United States. Claude's grandson, Jean-Rémy Moet, gained the attention of elite clients such as Thomas Jefferson and Napoleon Bonaparte. The name Chandon was added to the company's title in 1832 when Jean-Rémy Moet divided the firm between his son Victor and his son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel de Briaÿe Chandon. Moet & Chandon is an unwavering attribute of social life worldwide. In 1971, Moet & Chandon merged with the Hennessy Cognac House, and in 1987 with Louis Vuitton. As a result, the LVMH (Louis-Vuitton-Moet-Hennessy) holding was created, the largest luxury group in the world, uniting such renowned brands as Guerlain, Christian Dior, Givenchy, Kenzo, Christian Lacroix, Hennessy, Louis Vuitton, and many others.
