Interesting facts

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2021 — an exceptional wine, the quintessence of Bordeaux Cabernet Sauvignon, which predominates in the blend (96%). The high content of Cabernet Sauvignon is very distinctly felt in this vintage, which has become the first to be almost 100% Cabernet. Overall, the wine is perfectly balanced, spicy, and incredibly sensual, enhanced by the natural intensity of the harvest. It is soft, with pleasant juicy acidity and chalky, sweet tannins. According to many wine critics, it has become the best among the 1-er Grand Cru wines in Pauillac. But this is not a showy wine. It does not try to be overly extravagant while demonstrating power and concentration. It will require considerable time to fully reveal its charm. Perhaps it is one of the most long-lived wines of the 2021 vintage, which can be enjoyed for 30 years or more. The high quality of the famous Chateau Lafite Rothschild wine is unnecessary to discuss, as it is known to everyone who has even the slightest idea about French wines. Let’s just say that according to the 1855 classification, this wine entered the top five best red Bordeaux wines of the Premier Grand Cru class and has since held top positions in the hierarchy of the most prestigious wines in the world. For the Lafite terroir to demonstrate its magic, the vinification process must be carried out with utmost precision. The distribution of grapes between wooden, steel, and concrete vats is determined based on the characteristics of each plot and the degree of ripeness of the grapes. Alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature with regular pumping over for gentle extraction of all phenolic compounds. Aging in new French oak barrels lasts for 12-15 months.

About the Manufacturer

The wine Chateau Lafite was first presented at the royal court by Nicolas Alexandre de Segur in 1716 and caused a real sensation in the court circles of Versailles. It became known as the “Wine of the King,” and after some time, it began to be served at the most exquisite high-society receptions not only in France but also in Russia. In 1868, Chateau Lafite was acquired by Baron Rothschild, which positively reflected on the future of the estate and the quality of its first and second wines. Today, Chateau Lafite Rothschild represents 100 hectares of excellent vineyards located on the picturesque slopes of Pauillac. The average age of the vines here is 40 years (it is from this grape that the estate's first wine — Chateau Lafite Rothschild — is made), although there are also 80-year-old and 100-year-old veterans. The excellent quality of the wine is primarily explained by the uniqueness of the terroir, which is mainly represented by limestone soils. At Chateau, small yields are produced, but the grapes are rich in valuable microelements responsible for the aromatic and taste complexity of the wine. Until recently, the aging period for Chateau Lafite Rothschild was 32–36 months, but it has now been reduced to 18-20 months, although the wine still ages in traditional oak barrels. In 1995, thanks to the efforts of Charles Chevalier and the new technical team of the estate, the quality of Chateau Lafite Rothschild wine reached a new, even higher level, achieved through stricter grape selection, as now only 30-40% of the harvest goes into making the estate's first wine. Thanks to this innovation, today Chateau Lafite Rothschild possesses even greater complexity, charm, elegance, and, importantly for great Bordeaux wines, longevity!
