Interesting facts
The "Angels Tears" line of South African wines, launched in 1992, is named after a legend that originated in the French town of Frenay in the 18th century. An outstanding grape harvest allowed for the production of an extraordinarily aromatic wine, which locals began to call ambrosia. The rumors spread and grew into a legend. Ambrosia is the food of the ancient Greek gods. Where there are gods, angels are not far behind. Thus, angels appeared, who, according to rumors, stole the wine at night. The wine was so good that even the angels could not resist temptation. Wetting their lips with the precious ambrosia, the angels cried tears of joy and shame. The angels' tears mixed with the wine, becoming their magical ingredient. Each bottle of the "Angels Tears" series contains exactly 777 drops of the drink, including several tears of a fallen angel. The dry rosé wine "Angels Tears" Rose is made from Pinotage and Chenin Blanc grapes grown in the Coastal Region. The first vines were planted here in 1694 by a family of Huguenots. The grapes are hand-harvested, then carefully sorted, destemmed, and gently pressed. Maceration on the skins lasts only half an hour to achieve a clear salmon-pink color for the future wine. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 13-15 °C. The wine has received numerous high ratings from the South African wine guide "Platter's South African Wine Guide."
About the Manufacturer
Grande Provence winery takes pride in its 325-year history. The winery is located in the beautiful valley of Franschhoek (translated from Afrikaans as "French corner"), situated in the Western Cape. About three hundred years ago, French Protestant Pierre Joubert hid a Bible in a loaf of bread and left his home in La Motte d'Ag (Provence). Pierre fled from religious persecution. In 1964, along with other Huguenots, he arrived in Olifantshoek (translated from Afrikaans as "elephant corner"), which was later renamed Franschhoek. After the tragic death of his wife on the journey, Pierre married one of his companions. Together with his wife, they founded a farm that later grew into a winery. In April 2004, Grande Provence winery was sold to a consortium of Danish and Belgian businessmen, and the company's development took on a new, modern pace.
