About the Manufacturer
Cloudy Bay winery was founded in 1985, becoming one of the pioneers of winemaking in New Zealand's Marlborough region. Its founder, David Hohnen, was deeply convinced of the area's immense winemaking potential. Within just 30 years, the products made here took the top position in New Zealand's wine industry, and Cloudy Bay vineyards earned a reputation as some of the best in the world. The winery is named after Cloudy Bay, which was named by Captain James Cook in 1770. His voyage to New Zealand coincided with a period of significant flooding that washed soil into the bay. Observing the clouds of sediment in the water, Cook named the area Cloudy Bay. Today, Cloudy Bay offers a wide range of wines from the Wairau Valley and Southern regions, as well as from Central Otago. The unique soil composition provides Cloudy Bay wines with a broad spectrum of aromas and flavors, imparting a complex sophistication.
