Interesting facts
Vodka "Reyka" is not just made in Iceland, but is literally woven from the breathtaking majestic landscapes of this still largely unexplored country. The word "reyka" translates from Old Icelandic as "steam rising from the earth's depths," which is a common phenomenon in an area with active volcanoes. Water is the most important component in the production of "Reyka" vodka. Arctic spring water, filtered through a 4000-year-old layer of solidified volcanic lava, is among the purest in the world. Elite varieties of barley and wheat, blended with this water, are distilled in a steam still known as a Carter-Head Still, of which there are only six in the world. Its design, originally developed for making gin, includes a chamber filled with botanical components, through which the spirit is infused with their aroma. In the case of "Reyka" vodka, this chamber is filled with pieces of lava, which, acting like a sponge, filters the distillate and softens it. With its unique taste, "Reyka" vodka confirms its title of "Best in the World" awarded by the International Wine & Spirits Competition in 2011 and is recognized as the most environmentally friendly. For five consecutive years, it has achieved prize-winning positions at this competition: silver in 2008, 2009, and 2012; gold in 2010 and 2011.
About the Manufacturer
On the land of volcanoes and glaciers, at the edge of the Arctic Circle, lies the Reyka distillery in the coastal town of Borgarnes on the northwest coast of Iceland. Located 74 km from Reykjavik and the active industrial life, it is surrounded by pristine nature. The level of carbon dioxide here remains at the lowest level, and the air is strikingly pure and clear. The taste of crystal Arctic water, purified by natural filters of lava deposits, inspired the idea of creating such a pure vodka. Rational use of natural resources, geothermal energy from nearby volcanoes, and spring water all contribute to creating an exceptionally pure product of the highest quality. Currently, the "Reyka" brand is owned by the independent family company William Grant & Sons, specifically its American subsidiary.
