Interesting facts
Domaine Jacques Prieur, Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is a dry red wine with a complex, intellectual taste and a berry-spicy aroma. The wine is produced from Pinot Noir grapes grown in a Grand Cru vineyard. The vineyard is located on the southeast side of a small slope with rocky clay-limestone soils, which provide the grapes with ideal and rapid ripening, almost regardless of weather conditions. The year 2015 was marked as exceptional. A large number of sunny days combined with rare rains contributed to early flowering and rapid ripening of the grapes. Pinot Noir began to be harvested on September 7. The harvest was of excellent quality, and the wines turned out to be delicate, expressive, and aromatic. The harvest for the production of Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru is hand-picked, sorted, and destemmed. Fermentation in open wooden vats at controlled temperature lasts for 19 days. During the active phase of alcoholic fermentation, the must is stirred twice a day. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 20 months in new oak barrels. The 2015 vintage is recommended for tasting from 2023 to 2045.
About the Manufacturer
The history of Domaine Jacques Prieur, founded in the heart of Meursault, dates back to 1898. You can never fully own a winery; you can only be a guardian of values and traditions to pass them on to future generations — this quote is especially true regarding Jacques Prieur and the history of the Domaine, whose wines and family traditions are a beautiful illustration of the Burgundian character. The strength of the Domaine lies in the reunion under one name of wines from the most prestigious terroirs of Burgundy: from Montrachet to Chambertin, as well as Corton, Echezeaux, and Musigny. Domaine Jacques Prieur owns vineyards in 22 appellations, including the most legendary in Côte d’Or. It is the only Domaine in Burgundy that owns vines in each of the five prestigious vineyards: Chambertin, Musigny, Clos Vougeot, Corton-Charlemagne, and Montrachet. This impressive collection is complemented by plots in other Grand Crus — in Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Thus, Domaine Jacques Prieur owns some of the brightest jewels in the Burgundian crown! Completely consisting of Grand Cru and Premier Cru (except for Clos de Mazeray in Meursault), Domaine Jacques Prieur produces renowned white and red wines. However, even the most delightful terroir is nothing without the experience and passion of the person. From the very beginning, the family of Jacques Prieur has provided the best care and attention to the vineyards to preserve the soil and create ideal conditions for the vines. All vineyards are cultivated according to organic farming principles. Grapes from each plot are vinified separately to preserve all unique characteristics. Today, the Domaine is managed by Jean-Pierre Labruyère and Édouard Labruyère, as well as Martin Prieur. The winemaker of the Domaine is the highly respected Nadine Gublan, who was named Winemaker of the Year by Revue du Vin de France in 1997. Martin Prieur defines the philosophy of the winery as follows: …The quality of wine largely depends on the quality of grapes: only from ripe and healthy berries can truly great wine be made. … Recently, we have been practicing the so-called method of viticulture raisonnée (rational viticulture), which, combined with the biodynamic method, has allowed us to achieve an optimal balance between the wines produced and the grapes grown.
