Interesting facts
The legendary wine "Opus One", made from California grapes, is considered the most "French" of the finest California red wines. Connoisseurs call "Opus One" the best wine in California's history. It was born thanks to two great winemakers of the 20th century: the famous Bordeaux producer Baron Philippe Rothschild and the equally famous Robert Mondavi from California, who carried out this joint project. The name for the wine was chosen so that it would be written the same on the label in both French and English. Baron Rothschild suggested the Latin word "Opus", which composers use to refer to their works. Robert Mondavi added the word "One", which can be understood as "first experience", but rather as "one of a kind". The Bordeaux-style wine is indeed "unique" and an extraordinary creation of two great winemakers. The harvest for the 2018 vintage began on September 19 and was completed on October 25, just before the fires spread across the vineyards, when less than 10% of the harvest remained on the vines. After vinification with a prolonged (18 days) maceration on the skins, the wine was aged for 17 months in new French oak barrels. "Opus One", 2018 will reveal its potential from 2024 to 2046.
