"Grande Reserve" Brut Premier Cru is an excellent top-class champagne, the recipe for which has been perfected by several generations of the Vilmart family. It is created from a blend of Pinot Noir (70%) and Chardonnay (30%) grapes grown in the Champagne region. A team of 30 people manually harvests the grapes, carefully placing the bunches into boxes for transport. After harvesting, the grapes are processed under gentle pressing. Fermentation of each variety takes place separately for 8-10 days in 225-liter French oak barrels. From October to July, a prolonged maceration process occurs. In January, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are blended. The wine is aged for 2 years. The sugar content in the champagne is approximately 5-15 g/l.
About the Manufacturer
The Vilmart company was founded in a small quiet village near the hills of Reims in 1872 by a man named Vilmart Desire. Over the next 20 years of hard work and effort, Vilmart established and developed his winery. In 1902, his son Charles took over the management of the family estate, dedicating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to the business. In 1930, this responsibility was inherited by Reno Vilmart, the grandfather of the current owner of the company. It was Reno, who did a lot for the winery, that elevated its status to a national level. Reno's daughter, Nicole, married one of the winery's workers, and together they decided to make changes to the traditional winemaking process by introducing the use of wooden oak barrels for aging, which was rare for this region. In 1990, their son Lauren took over management responsibilities. Today, the Vilmart estate covers approximately 11 hectares of land in the Champagne region, with 60% planted with Chardonnay, 36% with Pinot Noir, and 4% with Pinot Meunier. The soils are clayey, with a limestone mix.
