About the Manufacturer
Chateau Ste Michelle is one of the oldest and most renowned wineries in the Columbia Valley. The chateau was built in 1912 by Baron Frederick Stimson. Chateau Ste Michelle gained recognition in 1967 when under the guidance of legendary California winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff, it began producing a new line of premium wines called "Ste. Michelle Vintners". These wines combined Old World winemaking traditions with New World innovations. The recognition of Ste Michelle wines has grown year by year, and today the chateau consistently receives the highest accolades in the industry. It has been awarded "Wine Brand of the Year 2008" by Market Watch Magazine, "American Winery of the Year 2004" by Wine Enthusiast, and "2005 Winery of the Year" by Restaurant Wine. Chateau Ste Michelle is one of the few in the world that owns two winemaking facilities, one dedicated to white and the other to red grape varieties. This approach allows winemaker Bob Bertheau to create red and white wines with unique characteristics. The vineyards of Ste Michelle are located on the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains, where the climate is dry and sunny. White wines are produced in Woodinville, near Seattle. Red wines are made at Canoe Ridge Estate in eastern Washington.
