Interesting facts
Valduero, Blanco de Albillo, Ribera del Duero DO is an exquisite dry white wine representing the Ribera del Duero region. Here, at a site located 850 m above sea level, the Albillo variety is grown. The soils are rich in limestone with clay inclusions, and the age of the vines used is 15 years. The harvest is hand-picked and must be done at night, at lower temperatures. Before fermentation, a short maceration is carried out, followed by pressing the berries, and the must is fermented at a controlled temperature in steel containers for 10 days. This is followed by a quick aging on the lees using bâtonnage. Valduero, Blanco de Albillo demonstrates a characteristic varietal fruity character, a well-balanced taste, and a delicate aroma. It is recommended to serve it with fish dishes, cheeses, and grilled vegetables.
About the Manufacturer
Valduero winery is one of the first in the Ribera del Duero region. It was created by Gregorio García Álvarez in a small village, Gumiel de Mercado, in the province of Burgos, right in the center of Ribera del Duero. At that time, there were only about half a dozen wineries in the region, which, despite the long-standing winemaking traditions of the area and the high reputation of local wines among connoisseurs, were largely unknown to the general public. Today, the winery is run by Yolanda García Viadero, the founder's daughter. An agronomist by education, she places great importance on cultivating the Tinto Fino grape, describing it as "exceptional and unique in Spain, with a strong sense of terroir in its character, which is expressed in the structure and acidity of the wines that are on par with the best wines in the world." Yolanda also believes that great grapes need time and care in their development to showcase their best qualities, and that wines must be excellent in every respect to provide enjoyment to the consumer. For this reason, Valduero wines are stored and aged at the winery until they achieve great harmony and balance, which always depends on the strength of the drinks. For this reason, Valduero focuses on producing Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva wines. The aging of the wines takes place in an ancient 17th-century cellar that is up to 40 meters deep and covers an area of 1 square kilometer.
