Interesting facts
The young and fresh wine Martin Codax, Albarino is a wonderful example of Albarino, made exclusively from selected plots in Val do Salnes after a strict and thorough process that guarantees varietal purity and the traditional essence of the original wines from this valley. The Albarino variety, well adapted to the Atlantic climate, has been cultivated in the northwest of Spain for seven centuries. Albarino in Rias Baixas is a "monopoly", occupying 90% of the total area planted with white and red grape varieties. After harvesting, which occurs at the moment of optimal berry ripeness, the grapes undergo traditional fermentation at controlled temperatures in steel tanks.
About the Manufacturer
Bodegas Martin Codax, named in honor of the famous Galician musician and poet Martin Codax from the 13th century, was founded in 1986 in the small town of Cambados, located in the Salnes Valley — the heart of the Galician Rias Baixas region. The winery specializes in producing wines from the white grape variety Albarino, known for its fruity-floral richness and extraordinary freshness. A good Albarino wine always has a mineral note, as well as honey tones that develop over time. Only estate-grown grapes from vineyards covering a total area of 190 hectares are used in production. For the Rias Baixas DO region, this is an astronomical figure, as most growers work on plots ranging from 2 to 10 hectares. At Martin Codax winery, they enjoy experimenting with late harvest, producing dry concentrated wines.
