Interesting facts

"te Pa" Sauvignon Blanc is a refreshing white wine made from grapes grown in the unique terroir of New Zealand's Marlborough region. The Sauvignon Blanc grapes used for this wine are harvested from three vineyards: "MacDonald Family Home" in the Wairau Bar area (62%), the low-yielding "Redwood Hills" vineyard in the Awatere Valley (28%), and "Alabama" in the Wairau Valley (10%). The soils of "MacDonald Family Home" consist of sand and gravel, which are low in organic matter. Grapes grown in these soils impart tropical fruit notes and bright acidity to the wine's flavor profile. The grapes from the "Redwood Hills" vineyard, which has a cooler microclimate, contribute concentration, strong structure, minerality, and a long, fresh finish. At the winery, the grapes undergo fermentation, primarily in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures, with each vineyard's grapes fermented separately. After blending, the wine ages for a time on fine lees in the same vessels, with a small proportion aged in new barrels.

About the Manufacturer

The history of te Pa Family Vineyards dates back to the 1350s when a settlement was established at the mouth of the Wairau River by the descendants of Haisley MacDonald, the current owner of the estate. Haisley's descendants lived on this land for centuries, but it was only in the 20th century that they began to cultivate the land (growing potatoes) and raise livestock. Haisley traveled extensively in the USA, exploring the world and discovering new opportunities. Upon returning home, at his father's request, he was to continue the family farming business. However, Haisley decided to pursue winemaking and planted the first grapevines on his land in 2003. In 2011, the "te Pa" brand was launched, which immediately gained recognition from wine critics. The vineyards, covering about 400 hectares, are located in a unique microclimate of the Marlborough region, between the mighty Wairau River and the azure waters of the Cook Strait. This location ensures a continuous airflow throughout the growing season, significantly reducing the risk of disease and compensating for heat spikes in mid-summer. The soils under the vineyards range from rich fertile loams to sandy and clayey. Due to the uniqueness of the microclimate, the wines produced from local grapes have soft acidity, a spicy aroma, and mature flavor characteristics. Among the wide range of wines, one can always find a drink to suit one's taste and budget.
