Interesting facts
The wine is made from grapes from the Seaside block, which runs parallel to the beach, just 200 meters from the sea. The soils here contain more sand and gravel and much less organic matter. These soils yield grapes with good acidity, citrus and floral notes, as well as a subtle and intriguing saline character.
About the Manufacturer
The history of te Pa Family Vineyards dates back to the 1350s when a settlement was established at the mouth of the Wairau River by the descendants of Haisley MacDonald, the current owner of the estate. Haisley's descendants lived on this land for centuries, but it was only in the 20th century that they began to cultivate the land (growing potatoes) and raise livestock. Haisley traveled extensively in the USA, exploring the world and discovering new opportunities. Upon returning home, at his father's request, he was to continue the family farming business. However, Haisley decided to pursue winemaking and planted the first grapevines on his land in 2003. In 2011, the "te Pa" brand was launched, which immediately gained recognition from wine critics. The vineyards, covering about 400 hectares, are located in a unique microclimate of the Marlborough region, between the mighty Wairau River and the azure waters of the Cook Strait. This location ensures a continuous airflow throughout the growing season, significantly reducing the risk of disease and compensating for heat spikes in mid-summer. The soils under the vineyards range from rich fertile loams to sandy and clayey. Due to the uniqueness of the microclimate, the wines produced from local grapes have soft acidity, a spicy aroma, and mature flavor characteristics. Among the wide range of wines, one can always find a drink to suit one's taste and budget.
