Interesting facts
Valdo, "Cuvee del Fondatore" Prosecco di Valdobbiadene Superiore is a cuvée partially aged in oak barrels. The name of the wine literally translates to "Cuvée of the Founder", as it is dedicated to the founder of the "Valdo" company, who believed the most in the future and potential of the Prosecco region — Sergio Bolla. The wine is made from Prosecco (90%) and Chardonnay (10%). The grapes are grown on a south-facing plot at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. The soils are clayey, with marine sandstone admixtures. The harvest is done manually in the second half of September. The berries undergo gentle pressing and fermentation at a strictly controlled temperature. Chardonnay is aged in oak barrels for 6 months, while Prosecco is aged for 12 months in steel tanks. "Cuvee del Fondatore" has won the Grand Prix at Vinitaly (2008, 2010), the "Best Prosecco" award at the annual "Best Wines of Italy" competition (2007, 2010), silver medals at the "Challenge international du vin 2008" and "Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2007", and bronze medals at the "International Wine & Spirit Competition 2008", "Decanter World Wine Awards 2007", "Challenge international du vin 2007", and "International Wine & Spirit Competition 2006."
