Interesting facts
Meursault is the largest northern commune of Côte d'Or, located south of Volnay and Pommard in Côte de Beaune. The appellation has an ideal southeast exposure. The stony marl soil contributes significantly to the exceptional finesse of Meursault white wines. Meursault wines are generally very full-bodied, soft, and ripen slightly earlier than wines from neighboring communes Puligny and Chassagne. Chardonnay for the production of Meursault white wine is grown on 25-year-old vines. The harvest is done by hand. Fermentation and malolactic fermentation take place in oak barrels. Aging in French oak barrels of medium toast, of which 15% are new, lasts from 8 to 10 months. The wine has a storage potential of 5 years.
About the Manufacturer
The Louis Latour estate is one of the most respected producers in Burgundy, with wines that are highly popular worldwide. The estate's history dates back to the 17th century when a castle was built by Count de Grancy in 1749, and vineyards were planted on 17 hectares of land surrounding it. Today, the estate is managed by the 10th generation of the family, with a vineyard area of 50 hectares, planted mainly with classic Burgundy grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, from Chambertin in the north to Chevalier-Montrachet in the south. All harvests from the vineyards are transported to the winery in Aloxe-Corton, one of the oldest in France and considered the cradle of French winemaking. Today, the winery is equipped with the most modern technology, and a unique system of lifts and rails allows the entire winemaking process to occur under the force of gravity, eliminating the risk of oxidation and reflecting positively on the quality of the wine. In 1997, as part of its 200th anniversary celebrations, the Louis Latour estate was accepted into the exclusive Henokiens club. This club unites leading companies in their fields that continue to remain family-owned and bear the name of their founder for over 200 years.
