Interesting facts
Chateau La Dominique wine is produced from grapes of the Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties, which are hand-harvested and carefully selected. The vines, with an average age of at least 30 years, grow on gravel-sandy soil. On one side, the plot borders the Cheval Blanc estate, and the northern part adjoins the vineyards of Pomerol. The must is fermented in two stages: first, alcoholic fermentation in neutral tanks for about 25-35 days, followed by malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. Afterward, the wine is aged for 18 months in oak barrels, 50-70% of which are renewed each year. Before bottling, the wine is clarified using egg whites and lightly filtered.
About the Manufacturer
The Chateau La Dominique estate was founded in the 18th century. Its owner, who made his fortune in the Caribbean islands, named his new property after one of the French islands in that region. Later, from 1933, the estate was owned by the de Bellecour family from the Gazin estate in Pomerol, and in 1969 it was purchased by the famous construction magnate Clément Fayat, who also acquired properties in Médoc and Pomerol. On the advice of Michel Rolland, he completely restored the estate and took charge of Chateau's affairs, but in 2006 he changed strategy and hired Jean-Luc Thunevin, a wholesaler, owner of the Valandraud estate, and a pioneer of garage winemaking, to manage all its affairs. Today, Chateau la Dominique has reached the level of cult Bordeaux wines. The estate boasts lush vineyards, from which an excellent harvest is always gathered.
