Interesting facts
The wine "Chateau La Dominique" is produced from Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which are harvested by hand and carefully selected. The vines, with an average age of about 30 years, grow on gravelly-sandy soil. On one side, the plot borders the Cheval-Blanc estate, while the northern part adjoins the Pomerol vineyards. The must is fermented in two stages: first, alcoholic fermentation in neutral tanks for about 25-35 days, then malolactic fermentation is carried out in oak barrels. Upon completion, the wine is aged for 16 months in oak barrels, 50-70% of which are renewed each year. Before bottling, the wine is fined with egg white and lightly filtered.
About the Manufacturer
The Château La Dominique estate was founded back in the 18th century. Its then owner, who had made his fortune in the Caribbean, named his new property after one of the French islands in that region. Later, from 1933, the estate was owned by the de Bellencontre family from the Gazin estate in Pomerol, and in 1969 it was bought by the famous construction magnate Clément Fayat, who also acquired property in the Médoc and Pomerol. On the advice of Michel Rolland, he completely restored the estate and took charge of the Château's affairs himself, but in 2006 he changed strategy and hired Jean-Luc Thunevin, a wholesaler, owner of the Valandraud estate and a pioneer of garage winemaking, to manage all his affairs. Today, Chateau la Dominique has reached the level of the cult wines of Bordeaux. The estate owns lush vineyards from which a superb harvest is always gathered.
