Interesting facts
Domaine Georges Noellat, Nuits-Saint-Georges — a fantastic wine that will not disappoint, offering excellent organoleptic characteristics and a great price-quality ratio. The wine is made from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation. Most of the grapes come from the "O-Bas-de-Combe" plot, located just below "Aux Boudots" and directly adjacent to "Vosne Les Chaumes". Grapes are also harvested from the "Longecourt" plot, which is located below "Les Saint Georges". The soils of the plots are limestone-clay. The age of the vines exceeds 55 years. The harvest is done by hand in September. In 2020, 20% of whole clusters were used during vinification. The grapes undergo cold maceration, which lasts from 4 to 5 days depending on the harvest characteristics and takes place in stainless steel containers. Only natural yeast cultures are used for fermentation. After fermentation, the wine is transferred by gravity into French oak barrels, one-third of which are new, and aged for 14 to 20 months. Before bottling, the wine is neither clarified nor filtered.
About the Manufacturer
Domaine Georges Noellat was founded by Georges Noellat, the nephew of Charles Noellat, who once owned one of the greatest Domains in Vosne-Romanée and made significant contributions to the Domains of Jean-Jacques Confuron and Yudlo-Noellat, as well as Domaine Leroy. In 1990, Domaine Georges Noëllat agreed to sell its products for 20 years to such renowned winemakers as Jadot and Drouhin. In 2010, 20-year-old Maxime Cheurlin took over the Domaine from his grandmother. Maxime grew up in Champagne, but it seems that Burgundy wine is truly in his blood, as he is a nephew of the Jayer family and a cousin of Emmanuel Rouget's sons. He supplemented his "pedigree" with winemaking education at the Lycée du Viticole in Beaune and internships at Domaine Emmanuel Rouget and Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur in 2009. Today, the small but mighty Domaine Georges Noellat owns vineyards covering 5.5 hectares, including some of the deepest terroirs in Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Maxime inherited most of the old vines, which he intends to preserve with special care. As for winemaking, even at such an early stage of his winemaking career, Maxime has already earned a reputation for his elegant style. Wine critic Allen Meadows from "Burghound" noted that Maxime Cheurlin's wines are "impressively crafted wines that highlight the purity of fruit and finesse, they could truly be called delicate. One might wish for a bit more body and weight, but that is more of a stylistic comment because the wines are beautifully balanced and clearly speak of the terroirs underlying them." And Neil Martin from "Wine Advocate" calls Maxime "a driven young winemaker whose principles were instilled from an early age, but wow — what potential!".
