Interesting facts
Tignanello is the first wine made from Sangiovese that began aging in barrels. This modern, experimental blend combines Sangiovese and Cabernet in a non-traditional manner, and it is one of the first red wines produced in Chianti without the use of white grapes. In the early vintages of Tignanello — from 1971 to 1975 — varieties such as Malvasia and Trebbiano were included in the blend. Tignanello is produced only in the best years, using ripe grapes from vines of excellent quality. These vines are grown exclusively on a single plot in the heart of Chianti Classico between the valleys of the Pesa and Greve rivers, covering 47 hectares with a southwest exposure at an altitude of 350 to 400 meters above sea level. The vineyard soils consist of limestone and tuff.
