Interesting facts
"Vigna di Gabri" is one of the most interesting white wines from Sicily, created from a very intriguing blend that includes both local indigenous grape varieties and international ones. The name of the wine comes from Gabriella, who, along with her husband Giacomo, founded the Donnafugata winery. Gabriella had a great love for the Ansonica grape variety, believed in its potential for full flavor and captivating aroma, dreamed of creating a wine from this variety, and oversaw its development. The wine "Vigna di Gabri" was first released in 1987. In 2004, a new label was designed for the wine, depicting the bonds that connect Gabriella with her vineyards and with Ansonica — one of the oldest white grape varieties in Sicily.
About the Manufacturer
The name Donnafugata translates from Italian as "the woman who fled." There is a legend about Queen Maria Carolina's escape from Naples, finding refuge in a town in the heart of the Santa Margherita di Belice valley, in a palace under the starry sky. This event is also depicted on many labels with the image of a woman's head with hair blowing in the wind. The Rallo dynasty has been producing the finest wines of Sicily for 150 years. Based on family tradition, a more modern company was created — Donnafugata. This Sicilian family always has a festive atmosphere. During the harvest, Donnafugata hosts a night music festival in the vineyards. Most of the vineyards are located in southeastern Sicily, in the Contessa Entellina area. Grapes at Donnafugata are harvested at night; the estate uses solar energy, which is converted into electricity through solar panels. The Donnafugata website is also noteworthy, considered one of the best among Italian winemakers!
