Interesting facts
The Tenuta Guado al Tasso estate is located on the Tuscan coast, 96 km southwest of Florence. It stretches over the green hills surrounding the old village of Bolgheri all the way to the sea. This area is called the "Bolgheri amphitheater." Tenuta Guado al Tasso covers over 1,000 hectares, of which 300 hectares are planted with vineyards. The rest is occupied by wheat, sunflowers, and olive trees. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 45 to 60 meters above sea level. Most of them are dedicated to Vermentino—a grape native to the coastal regions of Liguria and Tuscany. There is also a small amount of other varieties: Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah.
About the Manufacturer
Once upon a time, the Tenuta Guado al Tasso estate was part of the feudal lands and occupied about 4,000 hectares, stretching for 7 km along the coastline. These lands belonged to the Gherardesca family, known in this region for over 1200 years. In the 1930s, the land was inherited by Carlotta Gherardesca Antinori, the mother of Piero Antinori. On the territory of Tenuta Guado al Tasso, 86 watchtowers have also been preserved, built 1000 years ago to protect these lands from the invasion of Saracens from the African coast. The first Vermentino harvest was gathered at Tenuta Guado al Tasso in 1996. Today, several different plots with Vermentino grapes are planted here. For the production of wine, the harvest from each vineyard is harvested and vinified separately. This allows creating a wine with a large number of different flavor nuances, as a result of the influence of both the terroir of individual vineyards and the degree of grape ripeness during the harvest. At the winery, the berries are destemmed, partially crushed, and immediately gently pressed. The resulting juice is cooled for a day to facilitate natural decantation. The clear juice is placed in stainless steel tanks, where fermentation takes place at a temperature not exceeding 16°C. About a month after fermentation, each batch of wine is tasted and carefully evaluated, and the selected options are assembled into the final version.
