About the Manufacturer
The Alois Lageder brand is synonymous with high-quality winemaking and viticulture. The winery, founded in 1823 by Johann Lageder, has been owned by one family for five generations. Johann Lageder built his own wine cellar and began trading in wines of his own production, which gained recognition for their high quality. In 1855, the wine business was inherited by one of Johann's sons — Alois, who significantly expanded the company's capabilities through his entrepreneurial skills and acquisition of new vineyards. Since 1963, after the death of the family head Alois IV, the company has been run by his widow Kristina Ressler and eldest daughter Wendela, who was 21 at the time. Wendela, with the support of her family and mother, achieved great results in managing the family business. It was not easy for a young woman to gain recognition in a male-dominated business. In 1969, Wendela married a young, successful enologist Louis von Delman. He took over the winemaking process and soon gained wide recognition as a master of white wine production. Today, the company is run by Alois Lageder, Wendela's brother. Alois employs both modern and traditional winemaking methods. Since 1990, about 50 hectares of vineyards owned by the family have been successfully cultivated using biodynamic principles of farming.
