About the Manufacturer
Chateau Lafleur Saint Jean has a rich history in Pomerol, located between some of the most famous wineries in the region. The vineyard is situated on the same plot as Petrus – the vines are so close that they almost touch. The wine is produced from three plots located between Petrus and La Fleur on the high plateau of Pomerol. The soil consists of a very deep layer of red gravel resting on a clay subsoil. Lafleur Saint Jean occupies only 1.2 hectares, which is extremely modest for a wine estate. All work is done by hand, and to obtain perfectly ripe and healthy berries, about 20 manual passes are required between pruning and harvesting. The average age of the vines is 40 years. The winery consists of four small stainless steel tanks with temperature control, the shape of which promotes excellent maceration of juice and pomace.
