Interesting facts
The red dry wine Ponce, "Clos Lojen" Bobal features a bright, fruity character and a soft texture, making it an ideal choice for a friendly gathering. The wine is made from Bobal grapes grown in the Manchuela region, considered the best terroir for expressing its varietal characteristics. The grapes are fermented whole bunches in open oak vats of 4,500 liters using only natural yeasts — a winemaking style familiar to Beaujolais enthusiasts. The young wine was aged in oak barrels of 4,500, 10,000, and 15,000 liters for 6 months and was bottled in March 2022. A total of 60,000 bottles of wine were produced. According to wine critic Louis Gutierrez, "Clos Lojen" Bobal offers excellent value for money.
About the Manufacturer
Ponce is a small family winery run by Juan Ponce. Although the Ponce family has been growing grapes for many generations, the first own vintage of wines was released only in 2005. The highlight of the Ponce vineyards is the old Bobal vines, some of which were planted over 85 years ago. Juan Ponce adheres to biodynamic viticulture methods and produces wine traditionally from each vineyard plot separately to maximally express the individuality of the terroir through the wine. Ten years after the winery's founding, Ponce wines became a symbol of the philosophy of new winemaking in Spain: biodynamically and organically grown grapes, as well as a focus on expressing the character of the terroir and the strong influence of natural wines from France.
