Interesting facts
The noble wine Chateau d`Issan has been served at royal tables for great events, which is why the motto above the entrance to the Château reads: "For royal tables and altars of the Gods". The label of the wine depicts a 15th-century castle-fortress, which served as the location for part of the English troops during the Hundred Years` War. Chateau d`Issan wine is produced from hand-harvested grapes grown on a 30-hectare vineyard. Fermentation takes place in steel containers for 6 days, and maceration lasts for 21 days. The wine is aged for 16-18 months in French oak barrels, 50% of which are new. The 2020 vintage is incomparable to any other but remains completely true to the authenticity of its historical terroir. This vintage will reveal its organoleptic properties fully between 2024 and 2039.
About the Manufacturer
Chateau d`Issan is located in the village of Cantenac, its history dates back to the 12th century. Guyenne (a historical province in the southwest of France) was occupied by England. At that time, the Margaux region was divided into two domains: Mout-Margaux (actually Château Margaux) and Mout-Cantenac (Château d`Issan). At that time, the knight Essenault built the Issan castle, which has survived to this day and is a historical monument. In 1855, the estate was awarded the title of 3rd Grand Cru Classé. The wines of Château d`Issan have always been renowned for their excellent quality, and many famous people have become their admirers. These wines were served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry Plantagenet. Château d`Issan was a favorite wine of Emperor Franz Joseph. Like many Bordeaux estates, Château d`Issan was destroyed after World War I. Today, the castle is owned by the esteemed winemaking family Cruz, who purchased it in 1950. The vineyards have been largely replanted, and the estate has been restored to its former glory. Château d`Issan owns 120 hectares of land, 50 of which are dedicated to vineyards. For the production of the great wine Château d`Issan and the second wine "Blason d`Issan", Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes are used. By using these varieties, traditional Margaux wines with the strength of Pauillac are produced.
