Interesting facts

"La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion" is the second wine of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion. The wine blend consists of three grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The drink attracts attention with its bright aroma featuring notes of tobacco and blackberry, chocolate and smoke, as well as a strong, fresh taste with juicy notes of black currant and plum. The weather during the growing season from early April to late September was noted as the driest since 1949. The amount of precipitation barely exceeded half of the average for the last 60 years. The moisture deficit caused soil dehydration, allowing the grape juice to become even more concentrated, especially in terms of sugar content.

About the Manufacturer

Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is located next to Chateau Haut-Brion. "Haut-Brion" was the common name of the area, and the first mention of it dates back to the 14th century. Once, Chateau La Mission was part of the estates of Chateau Haut-Brion, but under unknown circumstances, it became an independent estate. Since 1682, the estate has been owned by R.P. Simon, the prior of the order of the Preachers of the Mission, also known as the Lazarist order. The Lazarists cleared part of the forest in the Haut-Brion estate and built the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Mission, from which the name of the estate La Mission Haut-Brion derives. Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion constantly competes with the neighboring Chateau Haut-Brion in terms of wine quality. The winner seems to remain undecided for a long time: year after year, the quality of wines from both estates impresses with its consistency, and whenever one estate produces an exceptionally successful wine, the neighbor, as if retaliating, performs another miracle with the next harvest. The estates are owned by the same owner and are located very close to each other; it is enough to cross a narrow road to get from one estate to the other. The total area of the vineyards of Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion is 25 hectares, of which red varieties occupy 21 hectares, and the soils under the vineyards consist of deep (up to 18 meters in places) gravel interspersed with thin layers of clay. The planting density is 10,000 vines/hectare. The grape harvest is carried out by hand. All wines from Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion are full-bodied, very tannic, rich, and well-structured.
