Interesting facts

"Torcicoda" is a modern interpretation of the Primitivo grape, the first wine from Puglia to be included in the Wine Spectator "Top-100." The grapes for this wine are grown in the Masseria Maime estate, located in one of the most beautiful areas of Upper Salento, near the town of San Pietro Vernotico. The Primitivo harvest is collected in late August-early September, slightly overripe. After the berries are crushed, maceration in contact with the grape skins takes place for about 13 days in stainless steel tanks with gentle pumping and delestage. After fermentation at a controlled temperature not exceeding 27 °C, the wine is transferred to French and Hungarian oak barriques, where malolactic fermentation and aging for about 10 months take place. After bottling, the wine is further aged for 6 months before being released to the market.

About the Manufacturer

Apulia is located in the very south of Italy. To the east it is washed by the Adriatic Sea, to the south by the Gulf of Taranto and the Ionian Sea, and to the west it is protected by the Apennines. All this creates a unique but rather complex climate. The history of winemaking in Apulia dates back to the 5th century BC. A huge amount of wine is produced here, and if earlier this area was known for unpretentious table wines, now Apulia is experiencing a revolutionary rise in winemaking. The Tormaresca winery was founded by the Antinori family in 1998 on the basis of two estates: Minervino Murge, located near Bari, and another estate near Brindisi. Tormaresca produces white and red wines that reflect the versatile character of Apulia. The main grape for red wines is the local Negroamaro variety, with a bright aroma of black berries, while white wines are made from Chardonnay, enriching New World traditions with a unique southern Italian style. Tormaresca wines with a rich fruity bouquet have quickly achieved success and universal recognition. Antinori is the oldest winemaking estate in Tuscany, having been producing wine for over 600 years. The company traces its history back to 1385 and is currently managed by the 26th generation of the family—Marquis Piero Antinori. Largely due to his talent as a winemaker and his relentless pursuit of excellence, Italian wines have become among the best examples of world winemaking, and the name Antinori itself has become a symbol of innovation and quality. Today, the Antinori company owns several wineries in various regions of Italy, as well as vineyards in Chile, California, and Hungary. At the same time, the company strives to preserve the uniqueness of the wines characteristic of each locality, with quality and Italian elegance being their main characteristics. Many Antinori wines, thanks to their innovative approach and virtuosic blends, have literally revolutionized the wine market and are not inferior in properties to the best examples of Bordeaux, while at the same time comparing favorably in price. The world-renowned wine expert Robert Parker said that: "Antinori is, without a doubt, the greatest name in Italian winemaking. During a tasting of Antinori wines, the main thing happens—an understanding of the quality of the wine is instilled."
