Gitton Pere & Fils Silex Galinot Sancerre AOC 2019

The exquisite wine "Silex Galinot" is made from grapes grown in the vicinity of the village of Galinot. The vineyard, covering 0.7 hectares, was planted with Sauvignon Blanc vines in 1959. The plot is located on a slope with a 25% incline, an eastern exposure, and an altitude of 220 to 230 meters above sea level. The grapes are hand-harvested when the berries reach optimal ripeness. At the winery, the grapes undergo gentle pneumatic pressing. To achieve a wine with special organoleptic qualities, 75% of the must is vinified and aged for 10 months in oval 30-hectoliter barrels made of Croatian oak, while the remaining 25% is aged for 10 months in 600-liter barrels made of French oak. After blending, the wine matures for 1 year in stainless steel tanks, followed by another year in bottles after bottling. The wine has good storage and development potential. The spring of 2019 in the Loire Valley was cool and dry, with some vineyards suffering from April frosts. The cold weather slightly delayed the growth of the vines, but then a hot and dry summer followed. The air temperature rose quickly, and due to the low amount of precipitation, drought became a serious problem. Harvesting began in many parts of the Loire in September, and the grapes that survived the drought were rich and concentrated. Overall, it was a good year that yielded excellent quality grapes.
