Interesting facts
In Aloxe-Corton, one of the oldest villages in Burgundy, wines are produced that are among the longest-lived and slowest-developing wines of the region. Consequently, these wines are less popular than those of Beaune and Savigny-lès-Beaune, which mature faster. However, after 10-15 years of aging, Aloxe-Corton red wine reveals a full, soft taste with bright fruity notes. The grapes for this wine are harvested from 4 zones—Valozieres, Guerets, Caillettes, and Boutieres. The vines, with an average age of 30 years, grow on east-facing vineyards. The vineyards are planted on 90 hectares of land with predominantly stony-clay soils and deep limestone deposits. After harvest, the grapes are sorted and then undergo a 17-day alcoholic fermentation. The wine is aged for 15 months in oak barrels, 25% of which are new.
About the Manufacturer
For the Leflaive family, winemaking is a heritage passed down from generation to generation as a treasure. Olivier is the eighteenth of them. In 1984, he founded his own winery and wine house, Olivier Leflaive. In just a few years, the name became unique, a benchmark in the Côte de Beaune. Later, he was joined by his brother Patrick, then his daughter Julie, and his former brother-in-law Jean Soubeyrand. Owning 100 hectares of vineyards, 26 of which belong to the estate, and 82 vineyards, including the famous Grand Crus Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, and Montrachet, the estate pays homage to these renowned Burgundy vineyards, respecting traditional methods and the transmission of knowledge from generation to generation. Hand harvesting and skilled barrel aging by his passionate team allow the House to create elegant wines that are remarkable in every way. The white wines are exceptionally refined, while the reds are perfectly balanced in intensity. Valentin Champagne, Olivier Leflaive's latest creation, brings his Burgundian expertise to the Champagne terroir, creating a completely unique sparkle. In 2020, the management of the estate was transferred between Olivier and Julie, who completely redesigned it, giving it a modern look.
