Interesting facts
The DOC category was assigned to Orvieto in 1971, and over the past forty years, the region has experienced unprecedented growth: today it produces some of the most popular Italian white wines in the world. Orvieto DOC accounts for about three-quarters of all wine production in Umbria. The region is divided into Orvieto Classico, which occupies lands around the tuff cliff on which the city of Orvieto stands, and Orvieto, which is located on the northern and southern outskirts of the region. Volcanic soils combined with a favorable and unique microclimate provide excellent conditions for vineyards. The 2019 harvest took place in the second decade of September, a few days later than the last harvest. Each grape variety was processed separately. The grapes were destemmed, subjected to gentle crushing, pressing, and cooled to 10 °C for natural sedimentation of impurities. Fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at temperatures not exceeding 18 °C. The wine was also aged in these tanks until bottling. This vinification allowed "Campogrande" to retain freshness and a rich aroma.
