About the Manufacturer
The history of the Tarlant winemaking family begins in 1687 when, according to preserved records, Pierre Tarlant planted the first vineyards. He became the first winemaker in the town of Gland, and his business became a family affair, passing the reins to his son Michel, and later his grandson. The winemaking dynasty continued uninterrupted until 1911 when a family representative — Louis Adrien Tarlant — became the mayor of the town of Cuilly in the Marne department, one of the districts of the Champagne region. Thanks to Louis's active participation, the Champagne AOC area was officially delineated in 1927 during the so-called "Champagne Revolution". The First World War made its corrections to the development of the family business. The winery was almost destroyed, and it was only after 7 long years that Louis Tarlant, along with his wife Julia, managed to reconstruct the estate and create the first cuvée. However, the seemingly established production once again suffered losses. This time the estate was destroyed during the Second World War. Louis Tarlant's son, Georges, was sent to the army, and only upon his return in 1945 was he able to revive production, expanding the family business and thus immortalizing long-standing traditions. Today's generation of Tarlant winemakers consists of Jean-Marie Tarlant and his wife Michèle. They work together with their children: Benoit and Mélanie, who represent the 12th generation of the Tarlant family. The Tarlant estate covers about 14 hectares, with 55 vineyards spread across four different "crus".
