About the Manufacturer
The history of the Jacquesson House, founded by Claude Jacquesson and his son Memmi, began in 1798. Success accompanied the first years of wine production. Napoleon was a fan of the Jacquesson brand, visiting the Champagne House in 1809, and in 1810 awarded the House a gold medal for quality. For his wedding to Grand Duchess Maria-Louisa of Austria, Napoleon purchased a substantial batch of champagne from Jacquesson. In 1835, Adolphe Jacquesson took over the company and made radical changes, improving and expanding production. He invented the muselet — a wire cage to secure the cork in the champagne bottle, which he patented in 1844. By the end of the 19th century, the Jacquesson House produced about 1 million bottles a year, but after Adolphe's death, the family showed little interest in winemaking. In 1974, the Chiquet family acquired the Jacquesson House and made a number of improvements to the wine production process, as well as enhancing the vineyard management system. Today, the Jacquesson House owns 30 hectares of vineyards located in the Grand and Premier Cru communes: Oiry, Dizy, Avize, and Aÿ. Additionally, the estate purchases grapes grown in several Grand Cru communes: Verzy, Verzy, Chouilly, Mailly, and Sillery. The Chiquet family has restored the reputation of the Jacquesson brand, which today is associated with the highest quality champagnes.
