Interesting facts
To create the exquisite red wine Silver Oak, Cabernet Sauvignon, Alexander Valley, the producer uses grapes of the varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc. The majority of the blend is Cabernet Sauvignon (97.7%), with the remaining 2.3% shared among the other grape varieties, each contributing its distinctive traits to the overall bouquet (Merlot 1.3%, Petit Verdot 0.5%, Malbec 0.3%, Cabernet Franc 0.2%). The harvest for production is collected from the vineyards of Alexander Valley. After the grapes are harvested, they are transported to the winery, where they undergo pressing and alcoholic fermentation with prior maceration. The wine is aged in American oak barrels for at least 24 months.
About the Manufacturer
The history of Silver Oak began in late 1972 with a handshake between two friends whose visions aligned. Today, the company is a family business run by the Duncan family, specializing in the production and sale of ultra-premium wines from California, with grapes sourced from vineyards located in Alexander Valley and Napa Valley. Raymond T. Duncan, an entrepreneur from Colorado, began investing in California vineyards as early as 1962. Together with his friend, Justin Meyer, a winemaker and former Christian Brother, they acquired several advantageous plots of land, establishing a new winery. They decided to focus all their attention on producing wines exclusively from Cabernet Sauvignon. This was facilitated by the fact that the lands they acquired were already planted with quite old vines of this variety. The result of this decision was the release in 1979 of two wines from the same grape variety harvested from different plots, which created quite a stir and excitement around their personalities at one of California's exhibitions. This wine is "Silver Oak". Today, the business is wholly owned by the Duncan family and is managed by Ray's sons, David and Tim. In 2001, Daniel Baron was appointed as the chief winemaker, after which Justin Meyer retired, selling his share of the company to Raymond. In 2008, a fire occurred at the winery. Fortunately, it was quickly reconstructed according to a design by Diana Patterson. Today, the new winery tower graces the labels of Silver Oak wine and serves as a recognizable symbol of the estate, continually attracting crowds of tourists. Silver Oak owns vineyards located at an altitude of 200-400 meters above sea level. The vineyards grow Cabernet Sauvignon (95% of all vines), while the remaining 5% consist of Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Silver Oak also purchases high-quality raw materials from trusted partners. The winery is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and the cellars can simultaneously hold about 300 oak barrels for aging. The main supplier of regularly updated barrels is the cooperage company "A&K Cooperage". The company's philosophy is to strive to produce Cabernet Sauvignon wines with rich, vibrant aromas and velvety textures that do not require additional aging but rather aim to be consumed immediately after purchase.
