Interesting facts
Chateau Beychevelle is an elegant, rich, and very harmonious red wine created in the classic Bordeaux style. It enjoys great success among discerning consumers and is considered one of the best wines of Saint-Julien. The vineyards are located on prestigious Grand Cru class plots near the Gironde River, in the Saint-Julien region. The estate's agronomists grow high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, as well as a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, carefully selected and sorted, and then vinified in the traditional way. Aging in oak barrels, half of which are new, lasts for 18 months. The result is a rich and well-structured wine with good aging potential. The 2017 vintage needs an additional 4-6 years of maturation, after which it will be well preserved for 25 years or more.
About the Manufacturer
Chateau Beychevelle is impossible to miss as it is the first major estate on the D2 highway leading north to the commune of Saint-Julien. Few Bordeaux châteaux possess the same unique charm as this estate, which resembles an ancient palace. It was founded in the 17th century and once belonged to powerful Bordeaux families, including the Duke Jean-Louis Nogaret de la Valette, Grand Admiral of France. The maritime theme continues on the wine labels, with a ship depicted on all bottles from the Beychevelle estate. Legend has it that during the reign of King Henry III, the Duke d'Epernon, the first admiral of the royal navy, lived on these lands. Therefore, passing ships were obliged to salute their admiral with powerful cannon salutes while lowering their sails. In French, the command to lower sails is "Baisse Voiles," but in the local Aquitanian dialect, it sounded like "Baiche Veyles" or Beychevelle. Today, the estate owns 250 hectares of land in Saint-Julien, 90 of which are occupied by excellent vineyards. Here, magnificent wines are created that have a long aging potential while demonstrating excellent organoleptic characteristics even at a young age.
